Sacramento Bee reporter Peter Hecht’s account of marijuana – and those who grow, use and regulate it – is Sacramento State’s “One Book” selection for 2015-16.
Hecht will lecture at noon and 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, in the University Union Ballroom. Both talks are free and open to the public.
Hecht, who earned his master’s degree at California State University, Sacramento, said he was thrilled that “Weed Land: Inside America’s Marijuana Epicenter and How Pot Went Legit” was chosen.
One Book programs promote literacy and are designed to engage communities in conversation based on a shared reading experience.
Hecht will also participate in a panel discussion for the campus community at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015, in the ballroom. Hecht will sign copies of “Weed Land,” which is sold in the campus bookstore.
Hecht began covering marijuana issues in 2009. He also spearheaded The Bee’s “Weed Wars” blog beginning in 2010 as state voters considered an initiative to legalize pot.
Hecht earned a special master’s degree in Latin American and International Studies in 2004 from CSUS.
