Watch 2014 arrive amid cheers and wishes

People celebrating the new year in New York's Times Square mostly said they were wishing for world peace. Others had more personal concerns and some seemed to be most concerned with enjoying the moment.

Fireworks and grand celebrations welcomed in 2014 across the globe, but many who have had a difficult year are hoping for better times in 2014.

And in Dubai, a Persian Gulf nation known for glitz, glamor and over-the-top achievements like the world's tallest skyscraper, sought to break another record by creating the largest fireworks show to ring in the new year
