MEMORIAL DAY EVENTS
The Dignity Memorial Vietnam Wall is open 24 hours a day through 8 p.m. Monday at Mount Vernon Memorial Park and Mortuary, 8201 Greenback Lane.
7 a.m. – The 14th Annual "Reading of the Names" is at California Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Capitol Park, 15th and L streets. A ceremony honoring all veterans and active-duty personnel is at 1:30 p.m.
9 a.m. – A ceremony at New Auburn Cemetery, 1040 Collins Drive, includes speakers, flyover, wreath laying and white dove release.
10 a.m. – A ceremony with wreath laying and rendering of honors is at Old Auburn Cemetery, 170 Fulweiler Ave.
Noon – A ceremony with wreath laying and rendering of honors is at Maidu Indian Cemetery, Maidu Road and Wildwood Drive.
10 a.m.- 2 p.m. – A remembrance is at La Sierra High School Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Earl J. Koobs Nature Area, 5325 Engle Road. Colors will be presented at 11 a.m.
10:30 a.m. – An observance is at Sylvan Cemetery, 7401 Auburn Blvd. The event begins with a procession at the south end, and includes speakers and music.
9 a.m. – A ceremony with military honors and songs at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road.
11 a.m. – A ceremony with speakers, music and a flyover at Mount Vernon Memorial Park and Mortuary, 8201 Greenback Lane.
9 a.m. – The third annual Aerojet Wounded Veteran Run is at Folsom Parkway Trails, beginning behind the Plaza, 25005 Blue Ravine Road. The run includes 3K, 5K and 10K events and benefits the Wounded Warrior Project and Fallen Warriors Memorial Organization. For fees and to participate, visit woundedveteranrun.org.
11 a.m. – A remembrance service is at Lakeside Cemetery, 1201 Forrest St. Presented by American Legion Folsom Post 362.
11 a.m. Ceremony with wreath laying and rendering of honors at Newcastle Cemetery, 850 Taylor Road.
10 a.m. – The VFW Post 4647 presents its 47th Annual Memorial Day Parade, which begins on Watt Avenue and I Street and travels south. The parade's theme is "Salute to America's Defenders."
10 a.m. – The seventh annual Memorial Day ceremony is at 9:30 a.m. at Sacramento VA Medical Center Memorial Plaza, 10535 Hospital Way, Mather.
11 a.m. – A ceremony featuring a flag ceremony conducted by Whitney High School's Air Force Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps is at Rocklin Cemetery, Veterans Memorial, 4090 Kannasto Road.
11 a.m. – A remembrance with music and speakers begins at Roseville Community Cemetery, 421 Berry St. Guests can share photographs or memorabilia of family members who served. A lunch follows at Roseville Veterans Memorial Hall, 110 Park Drive.
8:30 a.m. – The Ninth Annual Buzz Oates No Excuses 5K is at William Land Park Village Green, Freeport Boulevard and Sutterville Road. Race-day registration begins at 7 a.m. Cost is $33 for adults and $16 for youth 15 and under. Benefits Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 500.
9 a.m - 4 p.m. – The third annual Memorial Day Health Fair for veterans to receive free health services is at UC Davis student-run Willow Clinic, the California State Military Museum, 1119 Second St.
10 a.m. – A service featuring music, honor guard and color guard is at Home of Peace Cemetery, 6200 Stockton Blvd.
1-3 p.m. – A ceremony is at Jesse Unruh State Office Building, 915 Capitol Mall. Sponsored by California Mexican American Veterans Memorial Inc.
