The annual Nite Brite Bike Parade in east Sacramento has been canceled.

A story in Monday's Bee said the parade, in which people decorate their bikes with lights and holiday cheer, was scheduled for tonight.

However, this year's parade will not occur. The organizer said the parade this year had to be canceled because the size of the event has grown so large that the needed permits and police escorts could not be obtained to be sure all the riders were safe.

Not enough money could be raised fast enough for permits.
