Jacob remained the top name for baby boys in California during 2013, while Sophia retained the top spot among girls.

The boys' names that saw the biggest jumps in popularity from 2012 to 2013 were Mateo, Sebastian and Lucas. The fastest-rising girls names were Penelope, Sofia and Mia.

And the name losing the most popularity last year? Isabella.

Updated July 2014, this database shows how many California children received a particular name in 2013. Excludes names - mostly crazy ones - with fewer than five instances in 2013.
