Swanson received his honorable mention in photography. Out of about 11,000 applications from students in 10 disciplines across the literary, performing, visual and design arts fields, Swanson was recognized for his outstanding work.

Accomplishment: National YoungArts Foundation honorable mention

Details: Swanson received his honorable mention in photography. Out of about 11,000 applications from students in 10 disciplines across the literary, performing, visual and design arts fields, Swanson was recognized for his outstanding work. Winners are designated in three categories: finalist, honorable mention and merit.

Kudos to: Ginger Rutland, retired Sacramento Bee editorial writer

Accomplishment: Recipient of Access Sacramento’s “Power of Voice” award

Details: Rutland, who recently concluded a quarter century on The Bee’s editorial board, was honored for her dedication to the community through her writing for the editorial pages of the newspaper. Access Sacramento is a nonprofit organization that operates two 24-hour cable public-access television stations.

Kudos to: UC Davis

Accomplishment: Ranked ninth in terms of sustainability and being friendly to the environment

Details: The Universitas Indonesia’s GreenMetric rankings take into account infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water use, transportation and education. The rankings comprise 301 universities. The University of Nottingham in England claimed the top spot.
