Kudos to: Peggie Clapper, Albert Einstein Middle School teacher

Accomplishment: Selected to participate in a program for teachers at the Globe Theatre in London

Details: Clapper’s emphasis on Shakespeare has grown over the years. With her selection to the Globe Academy for Educators, her lessons will benefit from knowledge gained in England while working with actors, directors and professors at the Globe.

Kudos to: The late Artivio Guerrero, community leader

Accomplishment: Planned park named in his honor

Details: Guerrero, a Catholic school teacher, was an active member of his community, including serving on the Fruitridge Manor Neighborhood Association. The $2.2 million park, scheduled to open by the end of the year at 6000 61st St. in Sacramento, will include a group picnic area, a basketball half court, a skate plaza, sculpture area and open turf.

Kudos to: Women of the Wild (WOW) hiking group

Accomplishment: Donated portion of dues to five organizations

Details: Together 22 years, the 38-member group found itself with a dues surplus. So this year, the women donated to Sacramento Crisis Nursery, Meals on Wheels, American River Parkway, Firefighters Burn Institute and Women Escaping a Violent Environment.
