Kudos to: Jesuit student Joe Schutz and friends
Accomplishment: Collected and donated more than 5,000 pounds of citrus
Details: Schutz got the idea of collecting surplus fruit from neighborhood trees during a bike ride along the American River bike trail. He noticed how much fruit was going to waste. The past two years, Harvest for Hunger has collected fruit from the neighborhood near Rio Americano and Jesuit high schools. The hundreds of bags of citrus were donated to food lockers and shelters.
Kudos to: Charlotte Sense, school nurse
Accomplishment: Receives top school nurse honor
Details: Sense, a registered nurse, received the School Nurse of the Year award from the Northern Section California School Nurse Organization. She has been tending to the needs of children in the Eureka Union School District and Placer County Office of Education for the past 14 years.
Kudos to: California Chapter of Association of Outdoor Lighting Professionals and California State Parks
Accomplishment: Two-year project that installed state-of-the-art exterior landscape lighting at Governor’s Mansion State Historic Park
Details: Project challenges included steep viewing angles created by high windows and restrictions of working with a historic building. No drilling was allowed, and installation was required to be unobtrusive.
