Applause: Kudos to Cole Arnold, Sylvan students, Jennifer Clemens and Arlette Garcia

As part of an effort to earn his Little Dragon black belt, 7-year-old Cole Arnold is asking for backpacks, pencils, lined notebook paper, colored pencils and crayons to be dropped off at a donation box at the Sierra 2 office, 2791 24th St.

Accomplishment: Mentored elementary school students

Details: The Sylvan Mentoring Team spoke to elementary school children about the middle-school experience and led sixth-grade classroom discussions about how to prevent bullying.

Kudos to: Teachers Jennifer Clemens and Arlette Garcia

Accomplishment: Named Teachers of the Year in Sacramento City Unified School District

Details: Clemens, who teaches freshmen at Arthur A. Benjamin Health Professions High School, is dedicated to helping students perform community service in their future field of employment. Garcia, a teacher at Earl Warren Elementary School, teaches the same group of students over fourth, fifth and sixth grades.
