Kudos to: Sacramento State President Alexander Gonzalez
Accomplishment: Chosen for the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities Hall of Champions
Details: The hall honors those who have transformed and expanded opportunities for Hispanic students. Among his accomplishments: expanded the role of Sacramento State’s Serna Center, which focuses on Hispanic education, service and policy issues.
Kudos to: Anthony Cummins, Civil Air Patrol cadet
Accomplishment: Won the General Carl A. Spaatz award
Details: The Spaatz award is the highest award available to cadets. Cadets must complete an exam that includes a leadership and aerospace education written test, a physical fitness test and a timed essay in moral leadership.
Kudos to: Natomas Charter School science teacher Lucy Coleman
Accomplishment: Named part of UC Davis team to study in Antarctica
Details: The team will dive under the 15-foot-thick ice of Lake Joyce to collect samples, images and environmental data in the study of microbial communities. The data will help scientists interpret fossilized microbial communities.
