A dinner to benefit those who suffered loss during the Sand fire is scheduled for Aug. 22 at the El Dorado County fairgrounds in Placerville.
The 4,200-acre Sand fire in El Dorado and Amador counties started July 25 when a motorist apparently drove on flammable grassland amid sweltering temperatures and California’s drought.
Cal Fire said that 20 homes and 47 outbuildings were destroyed in the wildland blaze that was contained Aug. 2.
The benefit will be held from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the main lawn of the fairgrounds. Tickets are $10 a person or $25 a family.
The price of the ticket includes pasta, salad, bread, watermelon and lemonade. Two bands will provide music.
Tickets will be available at the event or before the benefit at area businesses such as Thompson’s Toyota in Placerville and Keller & D’Agostini Real Estate in Plymouth.
