Kudos to: Mike Jones, Elk Grove teacher

Accomplishment: Selected to receive Angels in Adoption award

Details: Jones will be recognized for his work in the Elk Grove Unified School District and with his own organization, Courageous Connection, which address the needs of children in foster care. He has been instrumental in creating advisory classes for foster youth in the school district. The Angels award recognizes extraordinary contributions on behalf of children in need of families.

Kudos to: City of Sacramento’s Access Leisure

Accomplishment: Received the Ralph W. Braun Spirit of Ability award

Details: Access Leisure provides sports and recreational activities for people with disabilities. The Spirit of Ability award honors those who make a notable difference in the lives of people with physical disabilities.

Kudos to: Aerojet Rocketdyne Co., Rancho Cordova aerospace company

Accomplishment: Received award for helping to save satellite

Details: A team, which included two other aerospace companies and the Air Force, helped save the AEHF-1 military communications satellite and place it into proper orbit after the spacecraft’s main engine failed to ignite.
