Kiwanis Club of Rancho Murieta. A helicopter golf ball drop will be held Aug. 16 at Rancho Murieta amphitheater. The family event will include games for children, a live band from 3 to 7 p.m., beer/wine/sodas/hot dogs on sale, raffles and a ringside seat to see the 7,000 golf balls dropped. The $5 fee for a ringside seat will entitle the participant to either a hot dog or five tickets for games or beverages. Participation in the drop calls for $5 for golf ball, $20 for five golf balls. The Rancho Murieta Kiwanis Club has joined with Kiwanis International and UNICEF partnership to raise funds to eliminate maternal/neonatal tetanus in 25 countries. This disease kills one baby every nine minutes in 40 countries. It takes only three doses at a total cost of $1.80 to protect a mother and future babies.
Cal Aggie Alumni Association. The annual food and wine pairing program will be from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 16 at the Buehler Alumni Center. “Eat, Drink, Learn” themes the program featuring a presentation by Brad Kitson, a UC Davis alum and wine maker. Kitson will share ideas on the principles of how to create the perfect, simple food and wine pairings. Kristin Schug of Schug Carneros Estate Winery will add to the program with food/wine pairings. Wineries supporting the event will include Carrier, Brosseau, Schug Carneros Estate and Dasche Cellars. Tickets for alumni association members are $25; for nonmembers, $35. Sacramento Children’s Home Crisis Nurseries. The Viva L’Auto Gala has been added to Niello Concours at Serrano with Oct. 3 the date, North Ridge Country Club the place. The Niello Concours will be Oct. 5 at Serrano. The gala from 6 to 10 p.m. will feature a motor car display, cigars, vodka and bourbon bars, strolling dinner and wine tasting plus live and silent auctions. The gala is $75 per person with all proceeds benefiting the Crisis Nurseries. An additional pre-event, a Raduno gathering, will be Tuesday at Grebitus Jewelers Folsom Palladio. Yolo County Fair. The eighth annual opening night gala will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 13 in the Agriculture Building of the Yolo County Fair Grounds. The event will feature the first look at the 2014 educational booths and exhibits. Community leaders, growers and fair regulars will attend the gala, which will include local wines, olive oils, honey, nuts, jams, meats, produce and restaurant fare. Twin Lakes Food Bank. Nov. 1 has been set as the date for the annual dinner auction, which will be held at the Oak Hills Auditorium in Folsom. Reception and silent auction at 5:30 p.m. will be followed by dinner and live auction with Dave Bender of Channel 13 as emcee. Currently, Twin Lakes is conducting a Back 2 School backpack drive with the goal to supply 900 backpacks to local students.
