Water-wise tip: Switch dishwasher to ‘light’

This is part of a weekly feature in Home & Garden, highlighting ways residents can save water.

•  Set your dishwasher to the “light wash” setting.

That little adjustment may not seem like much. But on most dishwashers, it cuts water use by 55 percent. Yet, for more most loads, it works just as well.

If your dishwasher uses 4.5 gallons a load and you run one load a day, that adds up to more than 900 gallons in water savings.
