Sacramento Fire Department crews rescued multiple cats and birds from a house fire Saturday on Norbert Way in South Natomas. Two adults were evacuated safely. There were no injuries reported, and cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Assemblyman Marc Steinorth, R-Rancho Cucamonga, and others on June 13, 2017 demonstrated how to break into a hot car to free an animal at risk from heat-related death. Steinorth's bill in 2016 allowed the break-ins under certain circumstances.
Mojo the golden retriever survived a Sacramento house fire after suffering from smoke inhalation. His owners have moved into a new space where they can't keep a dog, so Mojo is at the Homeward Bound rehabilitation center looking for a new family.
Adoptions are free this month at the Front Street Animal Shelter to reduce crowding. The city animal shelter at 2127 Front St. has run out of space for new animals, according to a post on Facebook. As a “lifesaving measure,” all adoptions will be free until July 2.
