The dogs will go on to the next level of training before becoming service dogs for military veterans. The prisoners learn responsibility and training the dogs provides a sense of purpose during their rehabilitation.

    A Placer County Sheriff's deputy -- a K9 handler himself -- and an off-duty CHP officer came to the rescue of a frightened dog whose foray into I-80 traffic resulted in the animal being hit. The dog is okay, thanks to the efforts seen in this video.
