Police have identified a female suspect arrested Friday during a shooting in the Land Park neighborhood that left a male suspect dead and a police dog badly wounded.
Leslie McCulley, 28, of Chico was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on charges of possessing a stolen vehicle, possessing a handgun and negligent discharge of a firearm, Sacramento police said in a news release.
She may have accidentally fired off a round in the vehicle sometime before police contact, authorities said.
The coroner has not released the dead male suspect's identity.
The incident began shortly before 10 a.m. at 24th Street and Broadway, when officers tried to stop a stolen car.
The vehicle pursuit ended in the Land Park area, where the suspects left the vehicle and fled.
They arrested McCulley, but her male companion ran into a backyard near Riverside Boulevard and Robertson Way.
An officer deployed Bodie, and the male suspect fired, hitting the dog. Bodie was shot twice through the left jaw and wounded in the right paw.
The officer returned fire, killing the suspect.
On Saturday, Sacramento police reported that Bodie is in serious but stable condition. He is being treated by the Sacramento Veterinary Referral Center in Rancho Cordova.
