Escapes: Pacific Coast Dream Machines return to Half Moon Bay

Festival of magnificent machines

Head to Half Moon Bay for the Pacific Coast Dream Machines Show, a tribute to the internal combustion engine, featuring cars, tractors, airplanes and military equipment.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 27-28.

According to organizers, vehicles of "every era and style" will be on display, including Model T fire engines, vintage buses, custom motorcycles, tricked-out trucks, SWAT vehicles, one-of-a-kind antique engines and tractors and historic military aircrafts.

Another treat: battle re-enactments and a military flyover of historic aircraft.

Admission is $20 for adults, $10 for children and seniors.

Tickets are available at the gate. Event will be held at Half Moon Bay Airport: 9850 N. Cabrillo Highway.

JAMESTOWN

Famous train tour

Go behind the scenes and check out the famous Sierra No. 3 train at the 1897 State Historic Park in Jamestown.

The Sierra No. 3 locomotive starred in dozens of films across several decades, including 1929's "The Virginian" with Gary Cooper, 1954's "Apache" with Burt Lancaster and 1985's "Pale Rider" with Clint Eastwood.

Visitors will get to see routine maintenance and specialized work happening on current projects in the historic park. Tours run every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon.

Railtown 1897 SHP Shop Tours are included with park admission: $5 for adults, $3 for youths.

MODESTO

Marksmanship clinic

Hunting skills a little rusty? Come to the marksmanship clinic on April 20 organized by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife in Modesto.

The clinic will improve accuracy and refine hunting skills. The clinic's two instructors have a combined 60 years of firearm experience.

Lecture topics include proper zeroing, maximum point blank range, marksmanship techniques, range estimation, shot placement, ammunition and equipment selection. Attendees will have the opportunity to show off new skills at a shooting session.

The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cost is $45 for adults. Attendees must bring a rifle and ammunition.

LOOMIS

Travel painting workshop

Loomis painter Victoria Brooks will hold a workshop at her studio April 20 for those interested in seeing Italy and painting it at the same time.

The April workshop is the precursor to another workshop called "Painting in the Cinque Terra, Italy Workshop" that runs Sept. 14-21 in Italy. Participants will travel to the national park on the Ligurian coast of Italy and receive painting guidance and instruction. Artists of all levels are welcome.

The workshop in Loomis will take place from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Brooks will share information on what it's like to travel specifically for painting.
