GADGET

Fitbit One

$99.95 at www.fitbit.com

If you're looking for a fitness gadget that's inexpensive and actually easy to use, check out the Fitbit One. It's a wireless device that tracks the usual stats such as calories burned, distance traveled and steps taken. But it also has a bonus sleep monitor to measure quantity and quality of sleep. All stats can be wirelessly synced to PCs, Macs and select smartphones, and tracked with the included Fitbit mobile app.

The One employs the newest smart technology to ensure accurate measurement, using a three-axis accelerometer to track movement both during the day and at night. Start-up is easy. Just plug the device into your PC via USB to create your web-based Fitbit account, which asks for the usual stats like height and weight. It can be used with other popular apps such as MyFitnessPal for full social-media integration. The device offers six modes: step, distance, calories burned, floors climbed, activity tracker and clock. It includes a holder clip, wireless sync device, charging cord, free fitbit.com membership and sleep wristband that functions as a vibrating alarm. The One tracking device is extremely portable, measuring 1.89-by-.76-by-.38 inches and weighs .28 ounces. Available in black and burgundy. Purchase online at www.fitbit.com, as well as at retailers such as Apple, Radio Shack and Best Buy. Price is $99.95.
