Get your groove on over a long weekend of nonstop music. Kicking off Aug. 1, the sixth annual Downtown Berkeley MusicFest will feature hip-hop DJ music as well as "blues, soul, jazz, brass bands, klezmer, Middle Eastern, classical, Carnatic, bluegrass, twang-pop and cowboy genres," organizers said. Festa Italiana

What: Enjoy an open-air celebration of Italian food, music and culture. In addition to delicious eats – think lasagna, calamari, pizza, cannoli and more – the family-friendly event features a specialty-products marketplace and an Italian car and scooter show.

When: 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Aug. 3 and 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Aug. 4

Reading from California poet laureates

What: Several California poet laureates will gather for a picnic and reading in Benicia. You can try your hand at writing poetry too.

Travel club meeting

Wine for Words Fundraiser

What: The annual Friends of El Dorado County Library fundraiser includes a wine tasting, dinner, silent auction and raffle baskets. Guest author Kevin Smokler ("Practical Classics: 50 Reasons to Reread 50 Books You Haven't Touched Since High School") is scheduled to give a presentation and sign books.

When: 4-8 p.m. Aug. 25.
