Boy apparently drowns while swimming in Tahoe

Deputies say a 17-year-old boy is dead after apparently drowning in Lake Tahoe's Emerald Bay.

Deputies say a 17-year-old boy is dead after apparently drowning in Lake Tahoe's Emerald Bay.

El Dorado County sheriff's officials say Javon Lamar Green was pulled from the water Saturday morning. His exact cause of death was under investigation.

Deputies say they responded to reports of a possible drowning in the bay a little after 3 p.m. Friday. Family members in a rented boat told deputies the teen had been swimming toward Fannette Island when he vanished underwater.

Relatives say the boat was about 25 yards from the small island.

A California Highway Patrol helicopter and the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office Dive Team searched for the boy, who was eventually found in about 70 feet of water.
