•  Black Diamond Anthem AvaLung 28L ski backpack

The outdoor gear website GearInstitute picked the Black Diamond as its “Best of Class” in ski backpacks for 2013-14. The price may be weighty ($270), but the pack is light (3 pounds, 7 ounces) for what you get. The AvaLung technology helps you breathe in an avalanche emergency. There are compartments to store your helmet and also ski carry straps. It’s compressible, as well.

•  Only Brown Watch Roll

For the business traveler who has everything – or at least, several expensive watches – comes a “buttery” leather watch roll with a buckle to keep your precious timepieces safe. The interior comes in “old gold suede.” This, apparently, is a must-have for those who travel first-class because we can’t have our Rolexes rattling around in our carry-on bags now, can we?

•  Lonely Planet’s “How to Travel With the In-Laws”

Travel writer Anita Isalska writes about the “etiquette minefield” of going on vacation with the in-laws. Among the tips: “Never make assumptions about who will pay for what. The in-laws might own an island, but that doesn’t mean they want to pick up your cocktail tab.”
