All that jazz
Groove all weekend long at the Fillmore Jazz Festival, the largest free jazz festival on the West Coast. More than 100,000 people are expected to flock to San Francisco’s Fillmore district from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and next Sunday.
Vendors will stretch across 12 blocks on Fillmore Street, between Jackson and Eddy streets. SF Swing Fest, a group that celebrates old-school, swingin’ dance styles, will have its own entertainment area both days. Three stages will be stacked with talent.
This year’s theme is “Celebrating Women of Jazz and Beyond,” which means plenty of ladies are being featured, including Kim Nalley, Shayna Steele, Ila Cantor, Pamela Rose and Lavay Smith & Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers. Some musicians are more traditional, others are more bluesy. For more information, visit www.fillmorejazzfestival.com.
