The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Rating: PG-13 for sequences of sci-fi action/violence
What it’s about: The web-slinger is just starting to enjoy his work and his notoriety when high school graduation happens and everything changes.
Never miss a local story.
The kid attractor factor: Spider-Man, whistling that “Spider-Man” tune, swinging through Manhattan. And Emma Stone.
Good lessons / bad lessons: “Change is not just a slogan.” “Progress has its stepping stones.
Violence: Shootings, torture, car crashes, a few deaths
Language: Quite clean
Sex: Rather chaste, a stolen kiss.
Parents’ advisory: Pretty violent for a comic book movie, but OK for 10-and-up.
Legends Of Oz:
Rating: PG for some scary images and mild peril
What it’s about: Dorothy is summoned back to Oz to deal with the mischief of the Wicked Witch’s evil brother, The Jester.
The kid attractor factor: Dorothy catches up with the Scarecrow, the Cowardly Lion and the Tin Man. Dorothy sings like Lea Michele from “Glee!”
Good lessons / bad lessons: “No good can come from the reign of a fool.”
Violence: Animated flying monkeys are still scary, characters made from porcelain are shattered.
Language: Disney clean.
Sex: A fairy tale courtship.
Parents’ advisory: Only thinly connected to “The Wizard of Oz,” this one is aimed more at the very young, best-suited for 8-and-under.
