An HBO documentary with Sacramento ties was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award Thursday.

“Paycheck to Paycheck: The Life and Times of Katrina Gilbert,” will vie in the category of outstanding documentary or nonfiction special at the awards ceremony, which will be held Aug. 25 in Los Angeles and broadcast on NBC.

“Paycheck to Paycheck,” which debuted in March, follows a Tennessee single mother as she struggles to support three young children while making $9.49 an hour working at a nursing home.

Sacramento’s Karen Skelton served as coordinating producer for the documentary. Skelton is the editor-in-chief and CEO of the Shriver Report, a nonprofit media initiative focused on issues affecting women and led by Maria Shriver.

Shriver and HBO’s Sheila Nevins executive produced “Paycheck.”
