Now that most of the rain is out of the way, it’s about time for one of Sacramento’s signature outdoor music experiences. Concerts in the Park kicks off Friday, May 5 – just in time for Cinco de Mayo festivities – and runs each Friday through July 21 at Cesar Chavez Plaza (9th and I streets).
This free music series remains a popular gathering spot during Sacramento’s sunniest months, drawing a mix of music fans, beer-drinking bros, nearby office workers in no hurry to drive home and others. A single show can draw upwards of 6,000 folks as music from bands and DJs plays in the background.
The 2017 lineup cherry-picks some of Sacramento’s key bands, including such major-label signees as Rituals of Mine, which headlines the May 5 opening show, and Cemetery Sun, the alternative-rock band that’s headlines the May 19 show. The 2017 series also showcases some of Sacramento’s most buzzed about musical acts, including Destroy Boys, the teenage punk band that recently rocked the South By Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas, and the local hip-hop sensation known as Hobo Johnson.
Musicians from outside Sacramento will also be in the mix, including the indie hip-hop favorite Del the Funky Homosapien (June 9) and the Southern California ska favorite known as Mad Caddies (June 23).
Never miss a local story.
Each show will also feature food trucks to satiate those Friday evening munchies along with plenty of beverages for sale in the beer garden. So, are you ready to rock already? Here’s the summer Fridays full lineup for 2017 Concerts in the Park:
