Friday night’s Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers concert at Golden 1 Center has been postponed due to the singer’s laryngitis. The Aug. 25 show will be rescheduled to Friday, Sept. 1. All tickets originally purchased for the Aug. 25 show will be honored for the Sept.1 performance.
Refunds also will be available at the original point of purchase, Golden 1 Center officials said.
The postponement announcement appeared on promoter Another Planet Entertainment’s Facebook page and in a pair of tweets on Petty’s Twitter account.
Petty also postponed a sold-out Aug. 23 concert at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley due to laryngitis. That show has been rescheduled for Aug. 28.
A spokesperson for Another Planet Entertainment released the following statement:
“With deepest regrets, we have just been informed that Tom Petty’s laryngitis has not improved sufficiently enough in order to perform tonight. The show at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento tonight has been postponed. We will announce a rescheduled date as soon as possible. Please hold on to your tickets – all tickets for tonight’s show will be honored on the rescheduled date. We wish Tom a quick recovery.”
Petty and the Heartbreakers have spent the summer touring North America to mark the 40th anniversary of their self-titled debut album. The tour is scheduled to end with three performances at the Hollywood Bowl in late September.
Guest band The Shelters were scheduled to open for Petty in Sacramento.
