A young “piano virtuoso” from the region showcased his talents to the world Thursday night.
A segment about Nathan Zhang, a fifth-grader at Theodore Judah Elementary School in Folsom, ran Thursday on ABC World News Tonight with David Muir.
The broadcast’s final segment – titled “#AmericaStrong” – featured Zhang playing the piano to the first-graders during their lunchtime at the Folsom Cordova Unified School District campus.
So why does Nathan play for the children?
Never miss a local story.
“I’ve always enjoyed performing in front of people,” Nathan told ABC. “I think adding some music into their lunchtime would be very good for them.”
Even the school’s leader appreciates the youngster’s talent.
“His gift is not just playing the piano, but it’s his heart,” Canen Peterson, the school’s principal, said on the broadcast.
The district posted a three-minute video on its Facebook page of Nathan playing the piano. The post also mentions that Nathan has played at the famed Carnegie Hall in New York.
