Vivian Lee, co-founder of the long-running, Sunday-night JB’s Jazz Lounge series, is suspending the weekly event after the Aug. 31 show.

Lee sent a letter Tuesday night to musicians booked for the series through the end of the year notifying them that shows beginning in September have been canceled.

“We took an experiment in 2003 and turned it into the jazz spot in Sacramento,” Lee wrote in the note. “We became a place where jazz happens, and people outside of us wanted to play here and come here to listen.”

Lee told The Bee Wednesday that she is looking for a new venue in Sacramento to produce her popular jazz shows and potentially grow the program.

This Sunday’s show features flugelhornist Dmitri Matheny and his quartet, and the Aug. 31 show hosts trumpeter Anthony Coleman and his band San Kofa.

Sunday’s first set starts at 5 p.m. JB’s Jazz Lounge is located at 1401 Arden Way (in the Clarion Hotel), Sacramento. Tickets are $5-$15.
