Placerville Music Festival
11:30 a.m.-8 p.m. July 12
El Dorado County Fairgrounds
Well, here’s one that snuck up on us. A lineup of 10 local acts provides the broad spectrum you’d want in an inaugural event that joins the ever-expanding ranks of music festivals throughout the region. Country act Chris Gardner, bluegrassy jammers the Rusty Buckets, roots rockers Achilles Wheel and hip-hop acts Good Samaritans and Optimiztiq & Magik lead the way. 100 Placerville Drive, Placerville. $25 in advance; $35 at the door. www.placervillemusicfestival.com.
Benefit Concert for Sawyer
Noon July 12
When you have enough local artists sign on to keep a benefit going from noon to 11 p.m., you know you’ve got a special cause on your hands. Local rock veterans Tattooed Love Dogs, the Knockoffs and Whiskey & Stitches lead nearly a dozen acts in the Benefit for Sawyer, for a local boy, 8, suffering from Burkitt’s Lymphoma. 1400 Alhambra Blvd, Sacramento. $20. www.bluelampsacramento.com.
Young Rising Sons
6:30 p.m. July 16
Young Rising Sons was one of the upstart acts on the bill of last year’s TBD Fest, blending right in with a snappy soul-tinged brand of plucky indie pop, tailor-made for those warm, party-hearty nights on midtown’s hottest blocks. With Hunter Hunted and Dreamers. 2708 J St., Sacramento. $15. www.harlows.com.
Looking ahead: The Devil Makes Three. Aug. 7 at Ace of Spades
