Competitors sought for California Senior Games

The El Dorado Hills Senior Center seeks competitors for the California Senior Games on Sept. 19-21 in the Livermore-Danville area.

The competition is open to ages 50 or older in bowling, dance sport, men's softball, swimming and tennis. The registration deadline is Friday.

Bunco party to benefit domestic violence prevention

The Center for Violence-Free Relationships will host a community bunco party fundraiser from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church hall, 6831 Mother Lode Drive, Placerville.

Suggested donation to play is $20 per person. A catered lunch will be available for a $10 donation. Reservations are required by Friday.

The center is a nonprofit social change agency dedicated to building healthy relations, families and communities free from sexual assault and domestic violence through education, advocacy and services in western El Dorado County.

Rotary Club of Rancho Cordova Sunrise to meet

The Rotary Club of Rancho Cordova Sunrise will meet at 7 a.m. Tuesday at the Old Mills Building at the light-rail station, Folsom Boulevard and Mather Field Road, Rancho Cordova.

Sacramento to Placerville rail line to be topic

The Clarksville Region Historical Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the El Dorado Hills Library, 7455 Silva Valley Parkway.

Robert Rower from the Sacramento Railroad Museum will give a presentation on the Sacramento to Placerville rail line built in the 1860s and also discuss aspects of the Transcontinental Railroad.

Art association meeting to feature gallery owner

The Folsom Art Association will feature Giovanna Stark, owner of American Visions Gallery in Folsom, at its meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday at 48 Natoma St., Folsom.

Diabetes class offered in Placerville area

Marshall Medical Center will offer a class for people recently diagnosed with diabetes or who would like a "refresher" course addressing nutrition and meter use, from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Placerville area.

Class fee is covered by most insurances.

Donors sought for Placerville blood drive

The Sierra Nevada Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2680 and Ladies Auxiliary will sponsor a blood drive for BloodSource from 1 to 6 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Veterans Memorial building, 130 Placerville Drive, Placerville.

Donors must be 17 or older, in good health, weigh at least 110 pounds and present photo identification. Donors will receive a coupon for a free pint of Baskin-Robbins ice cream and a T-shirt.

Wet 'n' Woofy dog swim set in Rancho Cordova

The third annual Cordova Recreation and Park District's Wet 'n' Woofy is set for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 30 at Lincoln Village Pool, 3480 Routier Road, Rancho Cordova.

The cost is $7 in advance or $10 at the door per dog. All dogs must have proof of current vaccinations including rabies, bordetella (kennel cough) and distemper-hepatitis-leptospirosis-parainfluenza-parvo-corona or distemper-hepatitis-parainfluenza-parvo-corona.

Children 18 or younger must be accompanied by an adult. Proceeds will benefit future district dog parks. To register, call (916) 362-1841 or go to www.crpd.com.

Twin Lakes Food Bank seeks nonperishables

Twin Lakes Food Bank seeks donations of nonperishable food items including cereal, canned main dishes, canned fruit, tuna and soup, and packaged side dishes.

Donations can be made from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays at 327 Montrose Drive, Folsom. Call (916) 985-6232.
