The University of California Cooperative Extension master food preservers of El Dorado County will offer free classes on the art and science of safe canning, freezing and drying techniques from 10 a.m. to noon at the Cooperative Extension Office, 311 Fair Lane, Placerville.
Classes include cheese making Tuesday, basic pressure canning Sept. 13, sausages and meat preservation Sept. 16, apples, pears and more Sept. 23 and home emergency food storage Sept. 30. For more information, call (530) 621-5503.
Women's Connection lunch
The Folsom Women's Connection will meet from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Scott's Seafood Grill and Bar, 9611 Greenback Lane, Folsom.
Lunch cost is $15 per person. The program will include music, fall gift ideas by Machado Orchards and guest speaker Barbara Carr.

Meet and greet
The Special Education Parent Action Committee will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Life Bridge Church, 216 Persifer St., Folsom.
The meeting is open to the public.
The committee is a community-focused parent organization that supports and educates parents, guardians, students and others in regard to the disabled in the community and education systems.

Charity fundraiser set
Simple Serenity Spa will host "Make Time for You," a charity fundraiser, from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Mercedes-Benz of El Dorado Hills, 1000 Mercedes Lane.
Ticket cost of $40 per person or $60 per couple includes valet parking, music, a fashion show, wine tasting, appetizers, a $25 gift card to Simple Serenity, drawings for prizes and an entry ticket for the grand prize, a $5,000 make-over.
