Folsom police and El Dorado County sheriff's investigators are working together to catch a team suspected of snatching purses in the city and using the stolen credit cards in rural El Dorado County.
A surveillance photo taken at a Bel Air supermarket in Folsom shows a woman and a man who appear to be working together. Based on witness statements, the duo has been linked to similar thefts at Save Mart and Linens and Things, investigators said. One suspect distracts a shopper while the other grabs the purse from the victim's shopping cart. The thefts investigators know about happened in late September and early October.
Credit card purchases were made are short time later at the Mt. Aukum General Store.
Investigators warn shoppers to be especially vigilant during the holidays. Even while reviewing surveillance footage from the stores, numerous other potential victims were spotted leaving their purses in plain view while they walked all the way down an aisle to grab an item off a shelf. Identity theft issues coming out of a stolen purse can take weeks or months to resolve.
The suspects also have been spotted in an older model red Mitsubishi Eclipse.
A surveillance photo of the suspects and a photo of a similar vehicle can be viewed at
