The put-on is wickedly clever: Since 1818, Hoxton Street Monster Supplies has served as the purveyor of “quality goods for monsters of every kind,” including vampires and zombies. In reality, it’s a charitable brick-and-mortar (and online) store in London that sells spooky novelty items such as cans of Mortal Terror and boxes of Cubed Earwax (caramels). Proceeds go to the Ministry of Stories, a “mentoring charity for young people” established by novelist Nick Hornby and friends in 2010. One offering is “The Monster’s Cookbook,” a perfect Halloween treat, with recipes for Sweet Gooey Baked Brain (baked Brie with maple syrup), Unicorn Pie (chicken pot pie), Flayed Minion (filet mignon) and more.
