We joined 100 other folks the other night in the brand-new 5,000-square-foot Legacy Club at Raley Field. There, the ballpark’s concessionaire, Ovations Food Services, showed off a few new new dishes that will be sold at seven public concessions during the River Cats season (beginning at 7:05 p.m. April 9) and a few others available only in suites and private clubs. Heck, we sampled them all, from lamb sliders to desserts at the chocolate fountain.
The solid new lineup at the concessions stands were whipped up by executive sous chef Andrew Guerere and his crew. A trio of panini ($8.50 each), a special mac ’n’ cheese ($6.25) and a mushroom-Swiss burger ($8) will join a diverse menu of let’s-play-ball standards – tacos, corn dogs, soft pretzels and the like, along with fresh-tossed salads, tostada salad and a fajita chicken rice bowl.
For families, two meal deals help with the food budget. There’s the popular chicken-strip bucket for four, with fries and sodas ($39.75), and the new hot dog bucket for four, with fries and sodas ($34.75).
Amid all the opening-night excitement, let’s remember to give a trophy to the hand-carved tri-tip sandwich. It’s always been a grand slam, perhaps the most satisfying dish of all.
