SactoMoFo ‘Trucktoberfest’ coming Oct. 5

Fans of mobile food, it’s time to mark your calendar for the mighty SactoMoFo “Trucktoberfest.” This second annual round-up of food trucks that lands in early fall is planned for Oct. 5 at West Sacramento’s River Walk Park. 20 mobile food vendors will set up shop, fron such perennial Sacramento favorites as Drewski’s Hot Rod Kitchen and Krush Burger to the Bay Area’s The Chairman Truck and KoJa Kitchen. That’s to say this smorgasbord of street food includes Asian influences, burgers, grilled sandwiches and plenty more to bust your gut.
Last year’s edition of Trucktoberfest drew more than 4,000 people who braved the triple-digit temperatures to chow down. Organizers are hoping Mother Nature goes a little easier on the weather this year, and have added some new attractions. One of those is a potato cooking contest sponsored by Tasteful Selections, which specializes in a petite sized potato. Each truck will make a potato dish that the public can sample for a nominal price, and a judges’ panel will also weigh in for their own picks. The winning truck nabs $1,000, and Tasteful Selections will also donate a pound of potatoes to the Yolo Food Bank for every pound sold at Trucktoberfest.
Trucktoberfest will also feature a “Prepare-A-Palooza” kids zone where young ones can learn about emergency preparedness while engaging in activities and winning prizes. For the adults, a beer garden with full bar, plus live music from Journey and Tower of Power tribute bands will be included in the festivities.
