Singing along and dancing to the big sounds of a German band require the right mood. Plenty of hearty homemade fare, cold beer and fine wine help revelers get into that frame of mind, of course.

See for yourself at Camerata California’s special Alpenfest and Old World Christmas Market, 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, at 5412 Gibbons Drive, Carmichael.

On the menu: smoked salmon, pate, mini-sausages, pretzels, bratwurst (pork, chicken and veggie), three kinds of potato salad, red cabbage, sauerkraut with apple, mixed beans and apple strudel. There will be a cocktail hour and a beer tasting.

The fest is a fund-raiser for the chamber choir’s Emerging Young Artist Scholarship Program. Tickets are $50; for more information and to make reservations: (916) 483-1386,
