Are these the best restaurants in the U.S.?

The editors at the all-things-food-and-drink The Daily Meal take their “best of” lists seriously.

Just released is their fourth annual ranking of the 101 Best Restaurants in America, compiled by a panel of judges that includes “restaurant critics and experts, food and lifestyle writers, and food bloggers from across America.”

“Exceptional culinary landscapes in big cities get even better, and new and different dining scenes are born and in turn attract and inspire even more greatness from a growing number of talented cooks,” they write. “This makes trying to rank the country’s best restaurants all the more challenging, but also all the more interesting, worthwhile and intriguing.”

It’s no surprise that New York has the most entries with 28, and fitting that California weighs in with 24. For the complete list, go to www.thedailymeal.com/101-best-restaurants-america. Meanwhile, here are the California winners and their rankings, bottom to top:
