It’s tomato time — and that means fun in Woodland. On Saturday, the city will host its seventh annual Woodland Tomato Festival.
Organized by the Woodland Farmers Market, this family event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Woodland’s Main Street between First and Third streets. Most of the activity centers on Heritage Plaza next to the historic Woodland Opera House. Local restaurants will compete to see who makes the best salsa in town. Chefs will square off in an tomato cooking competition.
A big draw for many patrons is the annual tomato tasting, featuring more than 30 varieties from 9 a.m. to noon. (The yellow cherry tomato, Sun Gold, almost always wins.) The tomatoes are grown by Yolo County master gardeners, who also will answer tomato-related questions. Buy some Yolo-grown tomatoes to take home, too.
In addition, there will be music, family entertainment and more than 60 vendors. Admission is free. For more details, click here.
