Chipotle shut its doors for lunch Monday as the chain held a company-wide meeting on food safety practices after some of its diners suffered food-borne illnesses last year.
That meant Chipotle fans had to head elsewhere for lunch Monday, including those caught unaware when they tried to visit one of the 20 locations in the Sacramento region. To make up for the inconvenience, the company is offering free burritos to those who text the code “RAINCHECK” to 888222 and fill out an online form.
Some locations reopened before the scheduled 3 p.m. time, though several who visited the Chipotle across from Sacramento City College in the 11 a.m. hour found the doors closed.
Chipotle has seen sales and its stock price fall since it suffered an E. coli outbreak last year. A handful of diners reported suffering from norovirus after eating at the restaurants in Boston and California.
Never miss a local story.
