A pair of upscale event spaces at the Elks Tower in downtown Sacramento have shut their doors, according to web posts Saturday.
“RailBridge Cellars Penthouse Lounge and the Underground Lounge at The Elks Tower are closing their doors after 5 years of creating ‘Experiences’ for over 100,000 guests, and it’s with a heavy heart, that we announce that this chapter for our families and employees has come to an end,” read a post on Twitter and the lounges’ website.
Michael Gelber, president of Alexis Ventures, could not be reached for comment Saturday.
Gelber has been part of the effort to restore the Elks building. “You’re going to walk in and think you took a step back in time,” he told The Bee in October, as he prepared to open RailBridge Cellers & Co., a 2,000-square-foot restaurant and wine bar on the ground floor or the 90-year-old Elks Tower at 11th and J streets.
Saturday’s posts said Utah Partners, LLC, owner of the Utah Partners building, “for reasons unknown” withdrew its authorization “for us to book events in the Penthouse and Underground Lounge.”
The lounges had hosted more than 100,000 guests since they opened, according to the posts.
Social media includes multiple references to upcoming weddings and other events scheduled at the lounges.
