For something special to kick off the ’cue season, California Backyard has partnered with Style Media Group to host the third annual Top Chefs Grill-Off, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 18 at Whole Foods Market at the Fountains center (1001 Galleria Blvd., Roseville, 916-781-5300).
Whole Foods will donate chicken wings, salmon and tri-tip to be cooked in the competition. Among the restaurants squaring off for braggin’ rights will be Paul Martin’s American Bistro, Land Ocean New American Grill, Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, McCormick & Schmick’s, Monk’s Cellar, Cibo 7 and Lorenzo’s. The public can vote for their favorite chefs and dishes.
Each restaurant will be randomly paired with a national brand-name grill company, so cooking methods will vary. Grill-company representatives will be on site. They and the chefs will answer cooking questions, offer tips and explain techniques, so be ready to take notes.
Admission is free – as is all the food – though donations of non-perishable food to the Placer Food Bank are encouraged. All proceeds from the Whole Foods beer garden during the event also will go to the food bank.
