The Sacramento Region Community Foundation has established the King Fire Fund to support the approximately 3,000 residents affected by the King fire in El Dorado and Placer counties.
In a group support session at the Community Against Sexual Harm’s Oak Park drop-in center, peer counselor Avon Tyra Brown kneels before a room full of prostitutes and tells them they’re more valuable than any amount of money. “Don’t accept being bought and used because you’re above that,” she said.
Scott Heath, a local college student, hosted a neighborhood fundraiser for the River City Food Bank. A total of $7,000 and 700 pounds of food were collected. The food bank serves thousands of people every month, providing a safety net for families.
