Sean Singletary doesn't have the Kings' backup point guard job just yet.
Just as the second-round pick from Virginia seemed to have the angle on the spot behind Beno Udrih, the Kings agreed to terms with Bobby Brown on Wednesday.
A source close to the team confirmed the agreement, with Brown expected to sign a two-year, guaranteed contract today at the league minimum ($442,114) with a player option in the second season. The 6-foot-2, 23-year-old point guard out of Cal State Fullerton went undrafted in 2007 and played in Berlin, but his play with New Orleans at the Las Vegas summer league this month led to speculation he could land as the backup for the Hornets' Chris Paul.
He averaged 15.2 points and 6.3 assists, outplaying several first-round picks while averaging 35 minutes. The likely addition underscores the reality of the Kings' plight at the position. While they coveted Udrih enough to give him a five-year, $32 million deal earlier this month, the fifth-year player has a reputation for being injury prone. Thus, the backup role is vital.
Singletary, whose first season of his contract isn't fully guaranteed until the beginning of the regular season, averaged 5.8 points and 4.4 assists in 32.2 minutes per game and shot just 26.7 percent in the summer league.
