Q: How was the rookie hazing compared to what you expected?
A: It wasn't really that bad. I had to do little chores here and there, without explanation. If a guy needed something, I had to go get it. Carrying bags, I'm Brad's (Miller) professional bellman in any scenario away from Sacramento. Those are probably the main things. But there's nothing too bad. I don't have any horror stories or anything. I just had a few times I had to go pick things up in inclement weather.
Q: What's been the worst thing you've had to do?
A: When Brad goes shopping. That's the worst thing. When Brad did some Christmas shopping, it was hard on the arms.
Q: You had to follow him and carry what he bought?
A: Through New York. We were on Fifth Avenue and hit a couple spots and got his Christmas list filled up. I had to lug that around for a while.
Q: So he would buy something and you would have to get it back to the hotel.
A: He would buy a couple things, and I would have to deliver it safely.
Q: Did he buy light things or a lot of bowling balls and weight sets?
A: No bowling balls, but they definitely weren't light.
Q: Is the hazing worse as an NBA rookie or as a college freshman?
A: I think college freshman. They (Washington teammates) tried to do more stuff. I remember in Oregon last year, they put Icy Hot in my boxers. I went out to dinner, and it was like the worst dinner of my life. I didn't know what was going on. I came back, and everyone finally started laughing. I still couldn't really get it out. I went home and showered. That didn't even do the trick.
Q: How much are you looking forward to being a second-year player so you have somebody else to abuse?
A: I don't know if I'll be able to pull it off as a second-year player. But you can bet your bottom dollar by the time I'm in my sixth or seventh year they'll be doing stuff for me.
Q: What will you have saved up?
A: Bags, definitely. If I need some food. Probably anything I can think of. My list will probably grow by then.
