Day 31. Still no budget.
Both the Senate Democrats and Republicans caucused on Monday to discuss the budget impasse. The Republicans are scheduled to meet again this morning.
Senate Republican Leader Dick Ackerman said Monday he is talking to his Assembly counterpart about options for bringing the lower house back.
Ackerman said he spoke with Assembly GOP leader Mike Villines twice Monday because he feels work needs to be done on budget, trailer bill and bond implementation language.
Meanwhile, parents and child-care providers hold a press conference to demonstrate the impact of the budget crisis on California's child-care centers in Sacramento, while nursing-home caregivers gather to urge Sen. Jeff Denham to support the budget in Salinas.
And Jack O'Connell, whose would-be bid for governor in 2010 got $999,220 richer on Monday due to an independent expenditure donation by Netflix founder Reed Hastings, has a pair of events, including giving the keynote address at the California Association of Latino Superintendents and Administrators.
