1. WILDFIRE UPDATE-STATE EFFORTS VO/SOT
Officials at the Governor's Office of Emergency Services are continuing to coordinate the statewide response to the southern California wildfires. The Independent System Operator which manages the state electricity grid is also declaring power emergencies due to fires burning near power lines. Homeland Security Director Federal Homeland Security Director Michael Chertoff is visiting Southern California to tour the wildfire areas. A media availability is tentatively scheduled (due to travel time) for 2 P.M. and a conference call with President Bush for 5 P.M.
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is in San Diego and will make a brief appearance via satellite at the Women's Conference in Long Beach. His schedule for later in the day is not yet determined.
The Senate and Assembly have adjourned for the regular 2007 session. The special session for water and health care is ongoing. The 2008 session convenes January 7th.
