Witness gives Woodland cops key facts on armed robbery

Published: Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008 - 8:29 am

An observant onlooker managed to nab crucial information about a vehicle involved in an armed robbery at a Woodland store Saturday, but police still need help in identifying the thieves.

A man entered the Sally Beauty Supply on E. Main Street, showed the clerk a black handgun in his waistband and demanded money from both cash registers, Woodland police Sgt. Jason Brooks stated in a news release.

The clerk gave the man an undisclosed amount of cash, and he ran out of the store into a waiting getaway vehicle, he said.

A man standing in front of the nearby Grocery Outlet store saw the getaway car, which was occupied by two other men, and wrote down the car's license plate number. The man thought the car was suspicious because of how it was parked and because the passenger door was slightly ajar, Brooks said.

Moments later, the man saw the alleged thief leave the beauty supply store and get in the suspicious vehicle, which then drove out of the parking lot.

The car is described as a white-and-purple two-door sedan with California license plate 3BBD231. Department of Motor Vehicle records state the vehicle assigned to the license plate should be a 1992 two-door Lexus sedan, he said.

The armed robber is described as a black man, between 17 and 22 years old, with a small goatee, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black denim jeans and a silver-studded black belt. A detailed description of the other two men was not available.

Police are following up on the license plate information and a police sketch artist is scheduled to meet with the store's clerk today to complete a composite sketch.

Anyone with information about the vehicle or the case is asked to call Woodland police at (530) 666-2411.
