SureWest Communications has doubled its data center space with the addition of a new center in Citrus Heights, officials announced today.
SureWest's other data center at McClellan Park in North Highlands is at full capacity. The new center, which like the McClellan site will store network data for SureWest's business clients, was converted from existing space at its Citrus Heights location.
The Citrus Heights center is away from Sacramento's regional flood zone, making it more attractive, officials said.
"Many of the area's data centers are located in the middle of Sacramento's flood zone," said Paul Krueger, a SureWest executive director. "Our data centers have been singled out because our locations are outside of the local flood zones."
"It's like a disaster recovery plan for business," said SureWest spokesman Ron Rogers.
