A sewage spill in Cameron Park last weekend did not affect Cameron Park Lake, a recreation area in the community, the El Dorado Irrigation District reported Wednesday.
Final tests results from water sampling following the sewage spill, which was reported about 9 a.m. Saturday, showed no adverse effects to the lake, according to a district news release. The statement said county environmental health officials reviewed the test results and agreed that normal activities could resume at the lake. The county will remove posted restrictions.
The spill emanated from a manhole at the intersection of Winterhaven Drive and Chesapeake Bay Circle in Cameron Park's Winterhaven subdivision. The site is about a mile from Cameron Park Lake and separated from the lake by dense vegetation and homes, district officials said.
The district notified state and local environmental health agencies of the spill, and the county asked the district to take water samples to determine whether sewer water had reached the lake. In the meantime, the county posted signs restricting fishing and boating at the lake.
The Cameron Park Community Services District, which operates the lake, had closed a swimming lagoon Friday, before the spill occurred, to perform maintenance work on the lagoon's drain. The lagoon is not connected to the lake and the closure was not related to the spill, the news release said.
